Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Presented a Seminar on The Impact of Vitamin D Deficiency on Health
On Sunday, February 9, 2025, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein, a group of fourth-year students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil presented a seminar at Kurdistani Aynda Private School. The seminar, titled The Impact of Vitamin D Deficiency on Health, was delivered to 12th-grade school students to raise their awareness of the importance of vitamin D in maintaining overall health.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr, Zana Ahmed, who introduced them to the 12th-grade students and expressed his appreciation for their initiative. During the seminar, they discussed the essential roles of vitamin D in bone health, immune system function, and mental well-being. They explained how a lack of vitamin D can lead to conditions such as rickets in children, osteoporosis in adults, and an increased risk of infections and chronic diseases. The presentation also highlighted the natural sources of vitamin D, which include sunlight exposure, dietary sources such as fish and dairy products, and the use of supplements when necessary. The session was interactive, allowing high school students to ask questions about their diet and lifestyle habits related to vitamin D intake.
This seminar provided valuable knowledge to the students about the importance of vitamin D and ways to prevent its deficiency. It also allowed the presenters to enhance their public speaking and communication skills while sharing evidence-based nutritional information. The event contributed to strengthening community health awareness and promoting better dietary habits among young students.
