Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Visit Medicinal Plant Clinic to Explore the Health Benefits of Medicinal Plants
On Monday, February 10, 2025, a group of fourth-year students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein, visited the clinic of Dr. Badr Qadr Surchi, a renowned specialist in medicinal plants.
Upon arrival, Dr. Badr Qadr Surchi warmly welcomed the students and introduced them to the concept of medicinal plants and their role in disease prevention and treatment. He provided an overview of how certain plants possess bioactive compounds that contribute to improving digestion, boosting immunity, and managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and digestive disorders.
The students observed various herbal preparations, infusions, and extracts used in both traditional and modern medicine. Dr. Badr also explained the scientific basis behind the medicinal properties of plants, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based approaches in herbal therapy.
This visit allowed the students to enhance their understanding of the intersection between nutrition and herbal medicine, expanding their knowledge beyond conventional dietary practices. The experience provided them with valuable insights into the potential of medicinal plants as complementary therapies and encouraged them to explore integrative approaches in clinical nutrition and dietetics.
