Mr. Omar Adil M. Ali from Department of Communication and Computer Engineering, recently published a paper entitled “Combining PID & Fuzzy Controllers for Antenna Azimuth Position Control” in Engineering Science Issued by the Society of Engineering Colleges of AARU Journal.
In this paper (an earth station antenna must be pointed in order to communicate with the satellite. These angles are most commonly specified as Azimuth and Elevation Angles. In a small station antenna, sometimes it is needed to fix either one of the angles and control the other one. The most well known traditional controller is the PID (Proportional – Integral – Derivative) controller. Fuzzy Logic works through the use of Fuzzy sets – collection of objects, which are less rigid than traditional sets. In traditional sets, an object is either in the set or not in the set. But in Fuzzy Logic an object can exist in between. The Fuzzy Logic Controller is designed to deal with situations where the available data is imprecise, vague, inaccurate and uncertain).
