Physiotherapy Department Students Visit Nursing Home in Erbil
On Sunday, February 1, 2026, students from the Physiotherapy Department at Cihan University-Erbil undertook a comprehensive clinical field visit to a nursing home in Erbil under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Asma Gholamerza.
First, the students were warmly welcomed by (Sangar Jamal Abdulkarim) Director of the nursing home, During the visit, learning extended beyond the classroom into real-life human experience.
Rather than observing passively, students actively engaged with elderly residents, using direct interaction to assess real health conditions and functional challenges. Through careful evaluation of movement patterns, posture, gait, balance control, muscle strength, joint mobility, and independence in daily activities, they gained a deeper understanding of age-related physical limitations. Some residents faced mobility restrictions, while others struggled with musculoskeletal weakness or balance instability, enabling students to clearly recognize how these challenges affect quality of life.
This hands-on experience fostered critical thinking, accurate identification of physical impairments, and the determination of individual rehabilitation priorities through respectful communication. Guided by their supervisor, students developed stronger clinical judgment, increased confidence, and a heightened sense of ethical responsibility.
