Presidents of Cihan University-Erbil and Jagiellonian University Discuss Strategic Academic Synergies and a Future MoU
In conjunction with the official scientific mission of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to Poland, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, held a high-level bilateral meeting with Professor Dr. hab. Piotr Jedynak, Rector of the historic Jagiellonian University.
Held on Monday, July 13, 2026, the meeting focused on establishing a strategic partnership and outlining a formal framework for cooperation. Professor Dr. Amjad emphasized the importance of building a scientific bridge with Jagiellonian University, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious institutions, with a history spanning more than 600 years. He identified faculty and student mobility, curriculum development, and joint research and conferences as the primary pillars of the proposed collaboration.
A significant portion of the discussion focused on advancing Cihan University-Erbil’s scientific journals. Professor Dr. Amjad expressed a strong interest in drawing on the expertise of Jagiellonian University’s editorial and supervisory committees to enhance the quality of Cihan University-Erbil’s publications. The goal is to align the journals with international standards and achieve indexing in globally recognized databases such as Scopus and Clarivate.
As a practical step toward formalizing these initiatives, Professor Dr. Amjad presented a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to Rector Piotr Jedynak. The Rector reciprocated by presenting Jagiellonian University’s draft proposal. Both documents will be reviewed by the respective university councils before final approval and signing in the near future.
The meeting concluded with Rector Piotr Jedynak commending Cihan University-Erbil’s proactive approach to international academic engagement. As a token of appreciation, Professor Dr. Amjad presented the Cihan University-Erbil emblem to the Rector, marking the beginning of a promising era of scientific collaboration and academic excellence.
