Professor Dr. Amjad Sabar Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, Meets NAFSA President and Board Members
Professor Dr. Amjad Sabar Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, currently in the United States as part of a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Region, participated in the annual NAFSA: Association of International Educators Conference. During the conference, Professor Dr. Amjad Sabar Al-Delawi held a significant meeting with Dr. Fanta Aw, President and CEO of NAFSA, and the organization’s board members.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around developing Cihan University-Erbil’s active international role in higher education. The President of Cihan University-Erbil emphasized the importance of leveraging NAFSA as a platform for establishing connections with universities worldwide, given that a large number of renowned, prestigious, and leading universities globally are members of this organization. The conference itself was also highlighted as a significant opportunity for networking and building strategic relationships with academic institutions.
Another segment of the meeting focused on the crucial project of student exchange between Cihan University-Erbil and international universities. In this context, NAFSA pledged to establish a network of connections with their partner universities to guide students towards Cihan University-Erbil for their studies. The President of Cihan University-Erbil, in turn, expressed the university’s readiness to welcome these students, as the educational, scientific and instruction language at Cihan University-Erbil is English, offering an excellent opportunity for any international student to pursue their education there.
Another facet of the discussion was devoted to the exchange of academic programs, particularly with universities in the United States, to support students in completing their studies and obtaining advanced degrees. Concurrently, the importance of building academic bridges between universities and various industrial sectors (such as manufacturing, agriculture, and renewable energy) was underscored. In this regard, the President of Cihan University-Erbil requested NAFSA officials to provide assistance based on NAFSA’s extensive experience in this area.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of Cihan University-Erbil was extended an invitation to attend the next NAFSA annual conference, slated to take place in the United States. It was further agreed that in the coming days, the relationship between Cihan University-Erbil and NAFSA would be strengthened to facilitate the implementation of the projects and collaborations discussed during the meeting with NAFSA officials.
