Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University – Erbil, Receives Delegation from the Iraqi Football Association

On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University – Erbil, received a delegation from the Iraqi Futsal Association. The delegation was headed by Mr. Hatem Abboud, Secretary-General of the Association, and accompanied by international referee Mr. Adel Fakher.

This reception follows the significant success of Erbil in hosting the Women’s International Mini Football (IMF) World Cup. The meeting was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul star Karim Saeed, Vice President for Administrative and Student Affairs, and Dr. Ahmed Abd Aoun, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. During the meeting, avenues for joint cooperation and coordination between the university and the association were discussed, covering areas such as training, sports education, and organizing championships. Emphasis was also placed on the vital role of academic institutions in supporting the sports movement and fostering an encouraging environment for young talents.

In this regard, Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi restated during the meeting that Cihan University – Erbil places special importance on sports as a fundamental pillar in building the complete personality of students and as a bridge for communication between peoples and cultures. He also affirmed the university’s readiness to dedicate its human and scientific resources to support any initiative that contributes to the development of Iraqi sports.

In return, Mr. Hatem Abboud, Secretary-General of the Iraqi Futsal Association, expressed his deep appreciation for Cihan University – Erbil. He lauded the university’s qualitative support for the championship and its continuous backing for the association’s endeavors, emphasizing that this conscious partnership serves as an exemplary model for collaborative work between educational and sports institutions.

The delegation also commended the leading role of the Kurdistan Region and its government in providing all necessities for the success of the championship, noting that this achievement reflects a dignified image of Iraq and its capabilities in organizing and hosting international events to the highest standards.

In another phase of the meeting, both sides exchanged views on how to strengthen cooperation for organizing future sports activities both within and outside the university campus. This aims to reinforce the university’s presence in the national sports arena and create new opportunities for interaction between academic institutions and the association in the fields of research, organization, and sports qualification.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi reaffirmed that the achieved success is a product of a national vision that believes sports are not merely competition, but a civilized and humanitarian message that unites peoples and showcases the potential of youth. He stressed that Cihan University – Erbil will remain a primary supporter of all efforts contributing to elevating the standard of Iraqi sports and strengthening its position regionally and internationally.
