Scientific Visit by Law Department Students to the Erbil Court of Appeal
On Thursday, November 20, 2025, second-year students from the Department of Law conducted a scientific field visit to the Erbil Court of Appeal.
The delegation was received by Judge Azad Haidar Bawa, Judge of the First Criminal Court, who provided the students with a thorough and enriching explanation. The discussion focused on the fundamentals of criminal law, analyzing the concept of crime and its essential elements, as well as discussing the types of judgments and their prescribed penalties. Judge Bawa also clarified the fundamental differences in jurisdiction and litigation procedures between the Court of First Instance Bada’a Court, the Criminal Court Jana’at, and the Misdemeanor Court Junha. Additionally, the meeting addressed the judge’s pivotal role during pleading and trial.
At the end of the visit, Judge Azad Haidar Bawa offered practical and professional advice to the students as a first step in their future careers as lawyers. The students expressed their deep gratitude for this valuable educational opportunity, which enhanced their practical understanding of the judicial system. Furthermore, they visited the Lawyers’ Chamber, learned about some of the procedures a lawyer must undertake, and discussed various topics with practicing lawyers.
