Student from the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences Leads the Kurdistan Taekwondo Delegation in South Korea
Hemin Mahdi Qader, a student in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at Cihan University-Erbil, is representing the Kurdistan Taekwondo Team as the head of the delegation and coach at the 2026 World Taekwondo Hanmadang.
The international championship is being held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, The celebration opened with a spectacular parade from Kukkiwon’s Iljumun Gate through the heart of Seoul’s Teheran-ro. More than 2,000 participants from 62 countries marched together—not simply as athletes and masters, but as one global Taekwondo family united by a shared spirit. where the Kurdistan Taekwondo Team is representing the sporting sector of the Kurdistan Region. Heman Mahdi Qader, a former distinguished international taekwondo athlete, is leading a delegation of nine talented athletes eight men and one woman selected from various cities and regions across Kurdistan.
The 2026 World Taekwondo Hanmadang, a global festival for Taekwondo practitioners around the world, will take place from August 1 to August 5, 2026, at Kukkiwon in Gangnam, Seoul.
The championship is taking place at Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, one of the world’s most prestigious centres for taekwondo. This participation marks an important opportunity to showcase the unity of Kurdistan’s athletes while highlighting the academic excellence, leadership, and organizational capabilities of Cihan University-Erbil students on the international stage. It also reflects the university’s commitment to preparing students who are capable of leading sports teams and managing international sporting delegations.
This year’s World Taekwondo Hanmadang has attracted thousands of athletes from more than 60 countries around the world. The championship provides an excellent opportunity to promote Kurdistan’s sporting talent, exchange technical expertise with international competitors, and compete for outstanding results at one of the world’s most prestigious taekwondo events.
