On Thursday, September 17, 2026, second-year students from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to Sami Abdulrahman Park in Erbil under the supervision of Lecturer Asmaa Ahmed Mustafa.
During the visit, the students conducted a comprehensive visual and spatial observation of the project site and its surrounding context. They examined the existing site conditions, circulation patterns, pedestrian movement, surrounding open spaces, and the relationship between the built and natural environments.
Discussions during the visit focused on how these contextual characteristics, along with considerations of site boundaries, sun orientation, access and circulation, pedestrian movement, street access to the site, open spaces, surrounding land uses, spatial relationships, the relationship between the built and natural environments, and climate, could inform the development of appropriate villa design solutions.
The field visit provided students with an opportunity to apply site-analysis principles in a real architectural context and develop a deeper understanding of context-responsive residential design. The observations and information collected during the visit are expected to support students in developing their Villa Design Studio projects and integrating architectural characteristics into their design proposals.
