Students from the Department of English Language Spread World Mental Health Awareness at Peshmarga Park
On Friday, October 10, 2025, second-stage students from the Department of English Language at Cihan University–Erbil conducted an awareness activity at Peshmarga Park on the occasion of World Mental Health Awareness Day, observed annually on October 10, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Marwa Mahmood Ameen.
During the event, the students actively engaged park visitors to raise awareness about mental health challenges among adolescents, highlighting the specific struggles faced by young people in today’s society. They distributed brochures containing essential information, explaining that mental health is not an illness, but rather encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being that requires attention and care. They also reminded the public that mental health is a priority and that self-care is essential.
The students shared self-care tips, including daily habits and activities to improve emotional and mental health, and explained strategies for overcoming mood disorders through coping techniques and resilience-building. In addition, they provided guidance on seeking professional help, informing visitors about when and where individuals can find support.
Concluding the activity, the students delivered an encouraging message: ‘Your Self Care is a Necessity and Mental Health is Priority.’ They urged the public to spread this message further, emphasizing that mental health is a priority and that support and understanding are always available for those experiencing mental health challenges.
This activity also allowed the students to apply their comprehension skills in a practical setting. They actively shared the knowledge they had learned with the public, demonstrating how reading comprehension can be used to educate and raise awareness about important social issues, such as World Mental Health Awareness Day.
