Students from the Department of Interior Design Engineering Conduct a Scientific Visit to Study a Food Court Design
On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, third-stage students from the Department of Interior Design Engineering at Cihan University – Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to the White Burger Restaurant, which is currently under construction, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed.
The students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Aziz Ismail Khalifa, an interior design engineer in the project, who provided an in-depth explanation of the food court design concept and the interior planning strategies used in restaurant spaces. He explained how space organization, seating arrangement, lighting, material selection, and color schemes were designed to enhance the user experience, comfort, and visual appeal of the dining environment.
Mr. Aziz also elaborated on the technical considerations, such as ventilation systems, acoustic treatment, and the durability of materials used in high-traffic food areas. He highlighted how finishes, textures, and lighting temperature contribute to the restaurant’s brand identity and ambiance, aligning with modern food court design trends.
During the visit, Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed guided the students in analyzing the spatial composition, circulation flow, and aesthetic balance of the interior. She emphasized how interior design decisions—including zoning, material harmony, and lighting coordination—directly affect customer comfort and perception within hospitality spaces. She also explained that the students saw stages of interior implementation as very important for their career
At the conclusion of the visit, students prepared sketches and analytical notes, demonstrating their understanding of food court design principles, material applications, and spatial organization.
