Students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Presented a Seminar at Zhyar High School on Food Awareness
On Thursday, January 30, 2025, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein, students from the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Cihan University-Erbil went to Zhyar High School to deliver an informative seminar on Food Awareness. Its objective was to educate high school students on the importance of healthy eating habits, balanced nutrition, and the impact of diet on overall well-being.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Azad Ahmed, the school director, who expressed his appreciation for the initiative and emphasized the significance of raising awareness of nutrition among young students. During the seminar, the students discussed various essential topics, including the importance of consuming nutrient-rich foods, the risks of unhealthy eating habits, and practical tips for maintaining a balanced diet. They highlighted the role of macronutrients and micronutrients in body function, the dangers of excessive consumption of processed food, and the benefits of incorporating fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into daily meals.
The seminar also featured an interactive discussion, where high school students had the opportunity to ask questions about dietary myths, weight management, and the effects of fast food on health. The engaging session encouraged students to think critically about their food choices and adopt healthier eating behaviors.
At the end of the seminar, the school’s administrative staff expressed gratitude to the students and Cihan University-Erbil for their efforts in promoting nutritional awareness. The event provided a valuable learning experience, reinforcing the importance of nutritional education in shaping healthier lifestyles for future generations.
