Students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Visited Dalany Medical Laboratory for Practical Training
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil conducted an educational visit to Dalany Medical Laboratory as part of their academic and practical training. The visit, held under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein, aimed to provide students with hands-on experience in laboratory diagnostics and a deeper understanding of advanced medical tests related to nutrition and health assessment.
The students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Jihad Yaqub, who expressed his support for academic collaborations and practical learning experiences. During the visit, students were introduced to a range of specialized tests essential for nutritional evaluation and disease prevention. In addition to basic biochemical analyses, they explored advanced diagnostic procedures such as Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) for long-term blood sugar control, C-reactive protein (CRP) and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) for inflammation detection, and electrolyte panel assessments for hydration and kidney function.
The visit also covered tests related to food allergies and intolerances, gut microbiome analysis, digestive enzyme evaluations, and homocysteine levels, which are critical in assessing cardiovascular health and metabolic disorders. Throughout the visit, students engaged with laboratory specialists, who provided detailed explanations about the principles of sample collection, laboratory processing, and test result interpretation. They learned how diagnostic findings play a crucial role in developing personalized nutrition plans, identifying deficiencies, and assessing the impact of diet on overall health.
Moreover, the visit highlighted the importance of laboratory diagnostics in preventive healthcare and clinical dietetics, emphasizing the need for collaboration between nutritionists and medical professionals. This educational initiative reinforced the students’ theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, allowing them to gain practical insights into the clinical aspects of nutrition science. The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil remains committed to organizing such visits, ensuring that its students receive comprehensive training to prepare them for their future careers in clinical nutrition, public health, and laboratory diagnostics.
