Students from the Department of Software Engineering and Informatics Get Acquainted with Software Operations and Mechanisms for System and Application Development

To familiarize students with the latest software operations and mechanisms in system and application development, the Department of Software Engineering and Informatics at Cihan University-Erbil organized a scientific field visit to Korek Telecom Company, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Ghassan Emmanuel.

During this visit, which took place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, a group of third-year students from the aforementioned department was warmly received by Mr. Yusuf Karsh, a programmer in the Software Department at Korek Telecom Company. In the visit, Mr. Yusuf explained to the students the importance of software in managing and operating the digital systems and electronic services that the company depends on for its daily operations. He mentioned that the company uses systems for bill collection, data management, customer applications, and technical security and monitoring. He further emphasized that the Software Department is considered the backbone of any institution that relies on technology, as its tasks integrate with those of other departments to ensure service development and enhance overall performance.

In another part of his presentation, Mr. Yusuf Karsh discussed the stages of software development within the company, which begin with requirements tracking and system analysis, progressing through the design and programming phases, and continuing to testing, quality assurance, and ongoing updates. He also noted that the primary tools and programming languages used in the company include Python, Java, and SQL, in addition to software project management frameworks such as Agile and Scrum.

At the end of the visit, Assistant Professor Dr. Ghassan expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Yusuf for providing this valuable opportunity for the students to become acquainted with modern software operations and mechanisms for system and application development at Korek Telecom Company.
