Students from the English Language Department Conduct an Activity on the Importance of Reading Literary Works at Ronia High School for Girls

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the fourth-stage students of the English Language Department at Cihan University–Erbil carried out an educational activity at Ronia High School for Girls. The event was under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Rozhin Hosseini.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Ms. Hasiba Mohammed, the school’s principal. During the activity, the students discussed how reading literary texts such as novels and poems can enrich learners’ vocabulary and significantly improve speaking abilities. They explained that exposure to authentic language in literature helps learners understand natural sentence structures, idiomatic expressions, and pronunciation patterns, which can later be used in conversations. The students also emphasized that reading dialogues in plays and novels can serve as a model for everyday communication.

At the end of the activity, both the students of Ronia High School and the university participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable exchange. Assistant Lecturer Rozhin Hosseini commended her students’ efforts and stated, “Reading literature not only improves language skills but also broadens students’ understanding of cultures, creativity, and communication in English.”
