The Commencement of the Cihan University-Erbil Football Championship

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, the annual Football Championship of Cihan University-Erbil began at the university stadium under the supervision of Dr. Zhiyan Jamal Othman, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. This championship features 21 teams representing various university departments. The tournament follows a single elimination format, with matches scheduled for all participating teams.

In the opening match, the Nursing Community Health Department team faced the Accounting Department team. Despite a strong performance by the Nursing Community Health team, which scored five goals, the Accounting Department team ultimately secured victory.

In the second match, the Medical Microbiology Department team competed against the Pharmacy College team. The Medical Microbiology team delivered an impressive performance, securing a decisive 5-2 win over their opponents.

Each year, the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, under the guidance of the university president, organizes various sports courses and events. These activities aim to engage students from all academic disciplines in diverse sports, with the football championship being a prominent and highly anticipated event in the university calendar.
