The Department of Accounting at Cihan University-Erbil Organized a Visit to the Erbil Water Directorate

On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Department of Accounting at Cihan University-Erbil organized a scientific visit to the Erbil Water Directorate for its fourth-year and second-year students under the supervision of Dr. Ibrahim Hussein and Assistant Lecturer Raz Azad. This visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of accounting, reinforce academic concepts among students, and strengthen the collaboration between the university, government institutions, and economic units. It also aimed to elevate the students’ academic and professional levels.

The students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Rezan Saadi, Director of the Water Directorate, Mr. Abd Al-Basit Wali Ali, Director of the Accounting Department, Mr. Haidar Abdullah, Head of the Budget Department, and staff member Zikar.

Mr. Abd Al-Basit Wali and Mr. Haidar Abdullah offered a comprehensive explanation of the accounting cycle used in the Erbil Water Directorate. They also gave a detailed description of the preparation of the financial documents necessary for recording transactions in the journal register (Accounting 86), including the posting process to various accounting records (such as Accounting 66, Accounting 2, and Accounting 4), and the purpose of each register. They later discussed the reconciliation procedures, accounting adjustments, and the preparation of financial reports. It was emphasized that the directorate follows a decentralized government accounting system and maintains current accounts with banks.

This scientific visit reflects the ongoing commitment of the Accounting Department and Cihan University-Erbil to enhancing the academic level of students, developing their practical skills, and enriching their hands-on experience. The university always strives to connect theoretical and practical knowledge, and such visits are an integral part of the educational process at Cihan University-Erbil.
