The Department of Architectural Engineering Conducted a Field Visit to Specialized Architectural Project
Second-year students from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil conducted a scientific field visit to the Weziran district in Erbil on Monday, September 29, 2025. The visit, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mays Fahmi Saleem, aimed to provide students with practical insights into architectural design principles and site analysis for their upcoming villa project in the Architectural Design I course.
During the visit, Assistant Lecturer Saleem explained the methodology of site analysis in detail. She discussed natural land characteristics, including soil type, topography, and climatic factors. Students also examined site accessibility, such as traffic routes, dimensions, and surrounding street widths, to determine suitable entrance points for their project. A key aspect of the visit involved analyzing the architectural styles and construction materials of nearby buildings. The site is surrounded by residential structures, commercial towers, and Sami Abdulrahman Park, one of Erbil’s most significant green spaces.
The field trip enabled students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. They studied the natural flow of the land and explored diverse architectural styles in the surrounding area, which includes parks, retail establishments, and residential developments. The hands-on experience also enhanced their understanding of building materials, construction technologies, and general residential building characteristics.
This initiative highlights the department’s commitment to experiential learning as a vital component of professional development in architectural engineering.
