The Department of Architectural Engineering Organizes a Scientific Visit to Erbil Citadel
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University – Erbil organized a scientific field visit for its second-year students to the ancient Erbil Citadel, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed.
During the visit, the students were received by Mr. Hawraz Muzaffar Omar, who guided them through the Citadel’s historical structures and explained the significant damages it has endured over various historical periods. He also provided detailed information on the ongoing restoration efforts and outlined future plans for revitalizing the Citadel, emphasizing initiatives aimed at enhancing its livability and sustainability. Mr. Hawraz, further highlighted that the Erbil Citadel is scheduled for broader public access and international visitation, with the goal of establishing it as a hub for cultural exchange and heritage preservation both locally and globally.
As part of the visit, the students also explored the Cihan University Cultural House within the Citadel, which showcases a collection of traditional Kurdish handicrafts and serves as a venue for cultural and social activities.
Renowned as one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited urban settlements and listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the Erbil Citadel offered the students invaluable firsthand insight into its architectural, cultural, and historical significance.
