The Department of Architectural Engineering Organizes a Scientific Visit to Saint George Church
On Tuesday, 23 September 2025, third-year students from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil organizes scientific visit to Saint George Church in Ankawa as part of their History of Medieval Architecture course.
Supervised by Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed, the students explored the church’s historical and architectural significance. They were received by Dr. Ramzy Rufael and Dr. Salm Kasa, who explained the church’s architectural features, history, and cultural value. The visit highlighted the church’s origins around 1300, its importance as one of the oldest landmarks in Ankawa, and the 2023 renovation that preserved its character while supporting its role as a living cultural and spiritual center.
The trip provided students with practical insights into medieval architectural styles and heritage conservation, reinforcing the department’s commitment to combining classroom learning with real-world experience.
