The Department of Computer Science at Cihan University – Erbil Conducted an Awareness Campaign on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs)
On Monday, April 28, 2025, students from the Department of Computer Science at Cihan University-Erbil conducted an awareness campaign on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).
Under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Alyaa Asaad Mahdi, the students were introduced to the goals and were encouraged to recognize their individual responsibility in contributing to their achievement. She emphasized that change starts with community awareness and local action.
After gaining a clear understanding of the SDGs and their impact, the students enthusiastically with a strong sense of responsibility, aiming to deliver their message to a broad audience. As part of the initiative, they produced a professional awareness video and released it on social media platforms in Kurdish, Arabic, and English to reach the widest possible segment of society. The video highlights how the SDGs contribute to improving human life and ensuring a sustainable future.
The campaign also included field visits to various locations around Erbil, such as Sami Abdulrahman Park and Empire, where students engaged with the public to raise awareness about the importance of the goals.
Additionally, the university team visited Darya Primary School, where they were warmly received by Ms. Nida Nabeel Haider. The students conducted an engaging and age-appropriate awareness session for the schoolchildren, offering practical explanations of how the SDGs relate to their daily lives. Topics included quality education, hygiene, and clean energy.
