The Department of Computer Science Celebrates International Programmers’ Day with Scientific and Recreational Activities
The Department of Computer Science at Cihan University- Erbil proudly celebrated International Programmers’ Day on Sunday, September 14, 2025. This day, which falls on the 256th day of the year, holds special significance in computing, as it represents the number of unique values that can be expressed with eight bits. The event brought together faculty members and students from all academic levels to highlight the importance of programming and its pivotal role in shaping modern digital society.
The celebration began with opening remarks from respected professors, who emphasized the rapid advancements in computer science and its diverse applications, which now underpin many aspects of contemporary life. They also highlighted the critical role of programmers as drivers of innovation and technological progress.
To foster competition and creativity among students, the department organized a digital programming contest specifically for second-year students. Participants demonstrated remarkable skill and ingenuity in solving programming challenges. The contest concluded with Aland Sherzad Ibrahim securing first place. He was presented with a special award in recognition of his outstanding performance, reflecting the department’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards.
