The Department of Interior Design Engineering: A Visit to Cihan Teaching Hospital

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Department of Interior Design Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil organized a field visit to the construction site of Cihan Teaching Hospital.

The visit, supervised by Dr. Nagham Ismael Yahya, involved fourth-year students from the Interior Design Engineering Department. They were received by Mr. Salim Abdullah Mustafa, the Project Director, who accompanied them on a tour of the project’s sections currently under implementation. Mr. Mustafa provided detailed explanations of the project’s operational methods, zoning distribution, and overall site layout.

The students then discussed the implementation of biophilic and sustainable design strategies in the hospital project. This discussion focused on redesigning the interior and environmental elements, integrating natural features, enhancing spatial experiences, and optimizing environmental performance within the healthcare facility.

At the end of the visit, the students asked the supervising engineer a series of questions about the steps of design implementation within the architectural framework and about creating an environmental setting in a healthcare context. The engineer responded to their inquiries.
