The Department of Interior Design Engineering Conducted a Scientific Visit to a Traditional Cinema and 360-Degree Cinema
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, a group of second- and third-stage Interior Design Engineering students at Cihan University – Erbil conducted a scientific visit to a traditional cinema and a 360-degree cinema (Dome Cinema) in Erbil as part of their case study, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed.
The students were received by Ms. Chra Kamal Muslim, who explained the materials, techniques, and design principles of both cinema types. She described the acoustic treatments, seating arrangements, lighting systems, projection methods, and interior finishes. She noted that the traditional cinema focuses on tiered seating, screen placement, clear sightlines, and wall acoustics to optimize viewing and sound. In contrast, the 360-degree cinema surrounds the audience with projections on a curved dome, requiring specialized surfaces, immersive sound systems, and integrated lighting to create a fully engaging visual and auditory experience.
Finally, Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed discussed how both cinema systems can be applied in architecture and interior design presentations. She demonstrated how spatial layout, material selection, and acoustic planning enhance project visualization and emphasized that understanding these systems helps students develop advanced presentation skills for future design projects.
