The Department of Media Organizes a Specialized Course on the Impact of Fake News on Individual Behavioral Psychology
On Thursday, October 2, 2025, the Media Department organized a specialized course on, The Impact of Fake News on Individual Behavioral Psychology for its students at Cihan Academy, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismael Mawlood.
The course was delivered by Mr. Mohammed Omar Kani, a trainer and researcher at the Ministry of Social Affairs. At the start of the session, the trainer defined fake news. He emphasized that it is not merely an unintentional error, but rather “organized misinformation created with the intention of promoting specific political, social, or economic interests.” He also explained the different types of fake news, noting that ‘distinguishing fake news is the beginning of the solution.’
During the practical session, the trainer divided students into several groups to analyze real visual and textual news examples, some of which were fake and others genuine. Through this activity, students learned to evaluate sources and information using simple, evidence-based methods rather than relying solely on emotions. The course effectively enhanced students’ analytical skills and critical thinking.
As the session ended, Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismael, on behalf of the Head of the Media Department, thanked the trainer for presenting this important and sensitive topic and presented him with a certificate of appreciation. Participation certificates were also awarded to all attending students.
