The Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis Organize an Educational Field Visit to Erbil International Hospital for Endocrinology Training

On Monday, 13th October 2025, the Department of Medical Biochemical Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil organized an educational field visit for third-stage students to Hawler International Hospital, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ms. Zubayda Hisham Shakr.

The students were warmly received by Mr. Hawre Saif Al-Din Nankali, who provided an introductory tour of the hospital’s departments, with a special focus on the Specialized Laboratory Unit. The supervisors explained how the COBAS system operates, combining antigen–antibody reactions with light-based detection to measure hormones, enzymes, and viral markers with high accuracy and sensitivity.

Students were introduced to the main components of the COBAS analyzer, including the sample carousel, reagent disk, incubation chamber, measuring cell, and control interface. They observed how the system automates multiple analytical steps, such as sample aspiration, reagent mixing, incubation, washing, signal detection, and result calculation.

The demonstration included hormone tests, such as TSH, T3, T4, insulin, cortisol, and reproductive hormones (estrogen and progesterone), as well as viral marker tests for HBsAg, HCV, and HIV antibodies. The instructors also discussed quality assurance measures, calibration procedures, and routine maintenance to ensure precision and reliability in laboratory diagnostics.
