The Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University-Erbil Organized a Scientific Visit to the American Medical Complex Laboratory
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Sally Khalil Baqer, conducted a scientific visit for first-year students to the American Medical Complex Laboratory. The visit aimed to highlight the differences between the main laboratory within a medical complex and outpatient-focused laboratories, such as the Smart Laboratory, which the students had visited during their first field trip.
Mr. Pishour guided the students throughout the visit and provided a detailed explanation of the laboratory’s systems and procedures. He began by outlining the patient intake process, which includes recording medical history and managing patient information. He then demonstrated the sample collection procedures and explained how samples are handled within the laboratory.
The students were introduced to the blood phlebotomy room, where different types of samples are collected. Mr. Pishour also explained various laboratory devices, many of which were similar to those at the Smart Laboratory but functioned differently due to the lab’s integration within a larger medical complex. This distinction highlighted the diversity within the field of medical laboratory analysis, as each laboratory has unique techniques and equipment.
Students were encouraged to continue gaining practical experience, reading extensively, and actively participating in training sessions at Cihan University, where experienced academic staff provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities. The visit concluded with a discussion session where various topics were addressed, and students’ questions were answered, helping to prepare them as a new generation of competent future analysts.
At the end of the visit, Assistant Lecturer Sally Khalil Baqer expressed her gratitude to Mr. Pishour for his valuable time and guidance.
