The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil Conducted Food Awareness Seminar at Rona School
On Monday, February 3, 2025, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil conducted a food awareness seminar at Rona School under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein.
The seminar, led by university students, aimed to educate school students on the crucial role of nutrition in learning, memory, and cognitive development. It highlighted how a well-balanced diet can enhance academic performance and overall well-being.
Upon their arrival, the university students were warmly welcomed by Miss Banaz Abdulrazaq, who expressed her appreciation for their initiative in promoting health education among young learners. The seminar was designed to be both educational and interactive, encouraging school students to actively participate and engage in discussions about their daily eating habits.
During the presentation, Fatima Azad, Zainab Ihsan, and Noora Lawand, along with their fellow students, emphasized the importance of consuming nutrient-rich foods that support brain function and memory retention. They explained the significant role of omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish and nuts, in improving concentration and cognitive function. They also highlighted the benefits of leafy greens, berries, and whole grains for boosting memory and providing sustained energy for learning.
Furthermore, the presenters underscored the advantages of consuming dark chocolate to enhance focus and the benefits of nuts and seeds for promoting brain health. The school students were encouraged to share their thoughts on healthy eating and ask questions about how to incorporate brain-boosting foods into their daily diets. Many students showed enthusiasm for learning how to replace unhealthy snacks with more nutritious alternatives to maintain their energy levels throughout the school day.
At the end of the seminar, Miss Banaz Abdulrazaq extended her gratitude to Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics for their efforts in spreading awareness about the link between nutrition and academic success. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives in guiding students toward healthier lifestyles and fostering a better understanding of the impact of food choices on mental performance.
