The Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies Erbil Organized a Scientific Visit to Maryamana Hospital
On Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, first-stage students from the Radiological Imaging Technologies Department at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Abdul Alim, held a scientific visit to Maryamana Hospital. The objectives of this visit were to enhance students’ understanding of medical imaging techniques and to provide them with an opportunity to observe the principles of working with Computed Tomography (CT) scans and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) devices.
The students were welcomed by Dr. Sivan Jawher. They were then divided into groups and had the opportunity to observe the techniques of CT scans and MRI devices. The students participated in equipment demonstration sessions conducted by the instructor, Abdul Alim. Maryamana Hospital features various advanced imaging technologies, including a 16-slice Philips CT Scan, a 1.5 Tesla Philips MRI machine, and a digital radiography system. The students investigated the CT gantry, CT table, CT control panel, MRI gantry, MRI patient table, safety protocols for CT and MRI, and various coils used for different MRI procedures.
Detailed instructions on CT and MRI procedures were provided to the students. They were guided through the steps involved in positioning patients, setting up the equipment, acquiring images, and ensuring image quality. Emphasis was placed on proper patient positioning, exposure settings, and safety precautions. Students were allowed to practice operating CT scanners and MRI systems under supervision. They learned practical skills such as adjusting imaging parameters, positioning patients correctly, and troubleshooting technical issues that may arise during imaging examinations.
At the end of the visit, the students expressed their excitement for having been involved in such an activity.
