The Physiotherapy Department Organized a Scientific Visit to Mehrabani Hospital
On Thursday, April 17, 2025, in continuation of the activities of the Physiotherapy Department, a scientific visit was organized by the department for its second-year students to Mehrabani hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Haval Sardar.
The students were warmly received by Dr. Tanya Tariq, a senior pathologist, who guided them through the various stages of histopathological examination.
The primary aim of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to biopsy procedures, slide preparation, and tissue staining techniques, which are essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. The session began with an explanation of how biopsies are collected using methods such as incisional, excisional, and core needle biopsies.
After tissue collection, the students observed the fixation process, using formalin to preserve the tissue structure. They were then introduced to tissue processing, where samples are dehydrated, cleared, and embedded in paraffin to create blocks for sectioning. Using a microtome, the students learned how thin tissue slices are cut and mounted onto glass slides.
The students were introduced to the Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining process, where hematoxylin stains cell nuclei purple, and eosin stains the cytoplasm pink, making cellular structures visible under a microscope. Finally, the students had the opportunity to examine stained slides under the microscope, allowing them to identify normal and abnormal tissue patterns.
This hands-on experience enriched their understanding of the critical role histopathology plays in modern medicine and deepened their appreciation for diagnostic precision. The visit was highly informative and greatly appreciated by all participants.
