The Translation Department Organizes a Scientific Visit to London Office for Legal Translation
To connect academic knowledge with professional practices and enhance the practical aspect, the Department of Translation at the College of Arts and Letters organized a scientific visit for its third-year students to London Office for Legal Translation on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The visit was held under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Laila Bahjat Sharif in cooperation with Lecturer Rafaei Rashid Muhammad, the Office Director.
During the visit, Lecturer Rafaei Rashid Muhammad explained the importance of legal translation and its role in various sectors, the working mechanism at legal translation offices, and the professional standards that legal translators must uphold. He later talked about the types of approved seals that grant credibility and legal acceptance to translated documents and ways to obtain a certificate qualifying them to become legal translators.
The visit also included a detailed explanation of the procedures for obtaining the identity of a Syndicate of Translators and its benefits to certified translators, in addition to shedding light on the challenges faced by legal translators in the workplace and ways to overcome them.
This visit was part of the Translation Department’s efforts to provide a practical educational experience for its students, which contributes to enhancing their applied skills and better preparing them for the job market in legal translation, which is one of the vital and specialized fields in translation.
