Translation Department Students: A Visit to Astoria College
On Sunday, January 19, 2024, first-year Translation Department students from Cihan University-Erbil, under the guidance of Assistant Lecturer Imadin Maged Zannrni, participated in an enriching community service visit to Astoria College. They were warmly welcomed by Mr. Hisham Conor, who facilitated a series of activities that combined academic enrichment with social impact.
The visit was highlighted by a cinema-based activity, where students demonstrated the role of translation in bridging cultural gaps. They explored the challenges of subtitling films, emphasizing the importance of cultural sensitivity and linguistic precision. Through this activity, students showcased how translation can contribute to making global content accessible to diverse communities, reflecting their commitment to using their skills for broader social good.
In addition to academic activities, Mr. Hisham introduced the students to various services and specific features of Astoria College. These include the courses it offers: Business English, General English, IGCSE, IPT, and IELTS. The students were also familiarized with the latest methods of teaching English.
The experience left a positive impression on both the students and the host community, reaffirming the vital role of education in promoting societal harmony and mutual understanding.
