Translation Department Students Conduct Translation Activity at Sami Abdulrahman Park
A group of second-stage students from the Translation Department conducted an engaging translation activity at Sami Abdulrahman Park on November 23, 2025. Organized under the supervision of Assistant Lecture Zeena Mahmood Ameen, the activity provided students with the opportunity to experience how translation can be applied outside the classroom with individuals of diverse languages, proficiency levels, ages, and professions in real-world settings.
The activity involved students providing members of the public with samples of complex English sentences to translate into languages they knew. The students later offered immediate feedback to participants. Those who translated correctly received goodies, while others were given corrective guidance to improve their translations. Participants expressed that they enjoyed receiving instant feedback on their performance and found translation both fun and challenging. Some noted that they can translate effectively when they have a strong vocabulary in both languages.
The activity then reversed roles, with the public providing sentences in their native languages for students to translate into other languages they knew. This interactive approach allowed students to assess and refine their translation skills in a practical context.
Upon completion, students shared that this hands-on experience beyond the classroom environment gave them a deeper understanding of the knowledge and competencies required for real-life translation.
