Translation Department Students Gain Real-World Insights During Visit to London Translation Services Office
On Tuesday, 18 November 2025, a group of second-stage students from the Translation Department at Cihan University–Erbil visited London Translation Services Office under the supervision of A.L. Zeena Mahmood Ameen. The visit was organized to provide students with firsthand exposure to a translator’s real-world working environment and to broaden their understanding of the translation profession, both theoretically and practically, beyond the classroom.
Upon arrival, the students were received by Mr. Rfaai Rashid Mohammad, the CEO and founder of the office, as well as an experienced translator. He introduced himself and provided an overview of the office, its workflow, and the range of services offered. He elaborated on the key responsibilities of translators, highlighting essential do’s and don’ts, along with the daily tasks typically carried out on the premises.
Additionally, he discussed the importance of linguistic competence in translation work, explaining the languages his office focuses on and why such knowledge is crucial. To provide students with a clearer picture, Mr. Rfaai presented examples of documents commonly received from clients for translation. While reviewing these samples, he demonstrated how translators perform translation tasks in a professional setting. He also talked about the steps required to become a certified translator.
The students were then given the opportunity to analyze translated documents available at the office during the visit. They later received immediate and constructive feedback from Mr. Rfaai. A question-and-answer session followed, allowing them to ask questions and gain further insights into the field.
The visit concluded with students taking a group photo with Mr. Rfaai and expressing their gratitude to him for the valuable knowledge and experience gained. They also conveyed to the Translation Department that they enjoyed the visit and were appreciative of the opportunity to participate in such an enriching experience.
