A delegation of university presidents from Iraq and the surrounding countries visits Cihan University-Erbil
To foster academic connections and explore potential collaborations, a delegation of university presidents from Iraq and the surrounding region recently visited Cihan University-Erbil.
On Wednesday, July 26th, 2023, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil received Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khair Al-Ghabani, president of International Union of Universities, representative of the Lebanese Minister of Higher Education and Research along with several other university presidents from Iraq and neighboring countries. The event was attended by Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Chairman of board of trustees – Cihan Universities and members of the Council of Cihan University-Erbil. At the beginning, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil delivered a speech.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and expressed his delight in meeting with the presidents of various Iraqi and regional universities at Cihan University-Erbil. He hoped that the gathering would pave the way for multiple collaborative agreements and joint initiatives. In his address, he highlighted the growth and development of Cihan University-Erbil over the years. Established in 2007, the university was the first private institution in Erbil, initially offering four departments. It has since expanded to encompass 27 departments across various colleges. Notably, Cihan University-Erbil takes pride in having introduced eight new departments that were previously unavailable in any other university in Kurdistan or Iraq.
In another part of his speech, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi shared the University’s remarkable progress in both local and international rankings, positioning it as a leading institution among private and public universities. He emphasized the quality of the academic staff, many of whom are graduates of prestigious global universities. Furthermore, Cihan University-Erbil is an active member of many international and regional organizations. In the field of scientific research, Cihan University-Erbil has two scientific journals. The university continues to encourage lecturers and researchers to publish their researches in leading journals around the world.
In the field of academic relations, the President of Cihan University-Erbil stressed that University fosters academic relations on an international scale, promoting student and faculty exchanges, as well as organizing joint conferences, workshops, and symposia. He hoped that during this visit they will sign a number of agreements with the presidents of the guest universities to expand the scope of scientific and academic relations in order to serve the society and the field of science.
In another part of the meeting, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Chairman of board of trustees – Cihan Universities, also extended a warm welcome to the guests and underscored the vital role of universities in nurturing competent individuals for society. He shed light on the vision of the Cihan University Group for the future and highlighted the organization’s endeavors to serve diverse communities through charitable projects and educational activities.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khair Al-Ghabani, president of International Union of Universities, expressed his pride in Cihan University-Erbil as the first private university in the Kurdistan Region. He shared insights into the union’s growth and accomplishments, particularly in organizing conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and other scientific events for member universities. . Then the representative of the Lebanese Minister of Higher Education and Research delivered a speech.
Following these discussions, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, signed a memorandum of understanding with the presidents and representatives of seven Iraqi and international universities, solidifying commitments to enhance scientific and academic cooperation and engage in joint research initiatives.
