A GROUP OF CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENTS CONDUCTED A SCHMIDT HAMMER TEST FOR CONCRETE SURFACES AT CIHAN UNIVERSITY- ERBIL
On 26 April 2022, a group of civil engineering students conducted a Schmidt hammer test for concrete surfaces at Cihan University-Erbil under the supervision of Dr. Diyar N. Qader, the advisor of Schmidt’s hammer. The objective of this activity was to examine the hardened concrete where the examination could be carried out without causing any damage to the construction elements.
The examination of concrete was used to set the frequency number and to identify the strength of the flexible mass. This is followed by identifying the strength of the surface that collides with it, and the results of this examination are used to guide the approximate value of resistance to the pressure of concrete. Moreover, this examination is used in the absence of a compression examination of concrete cubes and the appearance of cracks in the construction element.
The compression examination of concrete will be done if the contractor fails to comply with casting, compaction, and curing procedures according to specifications. This activity was certainly a great experience for these students.
