A Media Department Student Conducts an Awareness Seminar at Dangara High School in Shaqlawa

As part of their ongoing scientific activities, a student from the Department of Media at Cihan University–Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Dlan Ismail Mawlood, conducted an awareness seminar titled “How to Properly Use Electronic Devices and Their Effects on the Educational Process” at Dangara High School in Shaqlawa on Monday, February 2, 2026.

The seminar was presented by Rzgar Salih, a third-stage student from the Department of Media. At the beginning of the session, he discussed recent technological advancements and highlighted the significant role of smart devices such as mobile phones, iPads, and computers in the daily lives of students and young people.

He then explained how electronic devices can be transformed from tools of entertainment into valuable educational resources. He emphasized that the use of educational applications, language-learning platforms, and online scientific resources can enhance students’ personal skills and facilitate the understanding of complex academic subjects.

In the third part of the seminar, Rzgar Salih addressed the risks of social media addiction and the excessive time students spend on these platforms without academic benefit. He explained how this behavior negatively affects academic performance and concentration. He also suggested practical time-management strategies, including setting specific time limits for device use and avoiding electronic devices during study hours and before sleep, to achieve a healthy balance between digital life and education.

In the final section, he focused on electronic security and personal privacy protection. He warned students against sharing sensitive information or personal photos with strangers online and provided guidance on using strong passwords and avoiding suspicious links and websites that may lead to device hacking and threaten psychological and social safety.

At the end of the seminar, the administration of Dangara High School expressed their appreciation to Rzgar Salih for delivering an informative presentation and for raising students’ awareness about the proper use of electronic devices and the potential dangers of social media.
