A Seminar on Anti-Bullying was Delivered by English Language Department Students

On Sunday, October 19, 2025, third-stage students from the Department of English Language at Cihan University–Erbil delivered a series of awareness seminars titled ‘The Effects of Bullying on Academic Performance’ at Lana Private High School, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Marwa Mahmood Ameen, in observance of National Bullying Prevention Month.

Upon arrival, Assistant Lecturer Marwa Mahmood Ameen and the students were warmly received by Ms. Oraba Hassan, Head of Department at Lana Private High School, and Ms. Reyam Mohammed, the English teacher.

During the seminar, the students stressed that bullying negatively affects learners’ emotional well-being and academic performance, often leading to anxiety, low self-esteem, and reduced academic achievement. They discussed various types of bullying, its psychological and social consequences, and its long-term impact on learners’ confidence and success. The sessions also brought attention to preventive strategies and effective approaches for creating a safer and more inclusive school environment.

The activity concluded with an open discussion between Cihan University-Erbil students and the school students. Observations and questions from the students were received and answered by the English Language Department students, which enriched the content and made it more comprehensive.
