Accounting Department Organizes Scientific Visit to the Central Bank of Iraq – Erbil Branch
On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the Accounting Department at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific visit for second-year accounting students to the Central Bank of Iraq – Erbil Branch, under the supervision of Lecturer Rebin Bilal Mohammed.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Mr. Ali Jalil Jalal, the Training and Development Manager at the Central Bank. He provided an introductory overview of the Central Bank’s role in maintaining financial stability, regulating the banking sector, and supervising commercial banks throughout Iraq.
During the visit, Mr. Mohammed Ismahil Qahar, Treasury Manager, delivered a detailed explanation focusing specifically on the Iraqi dinar. He described the process of issuing the national currency, the stages of printing and distributing banknotes, and the mechanisms used to control currency circulation in the market. The students were introduced to procedures for receiving, counting, sorting, and storing cash, as well as methods for detecting damaged and counterfeit banknotes.
Special attention was given to the importance of maintaining the stability and value of the Iraqi dinar, the Central Bank’s role in managing liquidity in the local market, and the accounting procedures used to record cash movements and treasury operations. The presenters emphasized the significance of internal control systems, accuracy in documentation, and transparency in handling public funds.
The visit provided valuable practical knowledge about the management of the national currency and enhanced the students’ understanding of how accounting principles are applied within a sovereign financial institution.
At the end of the visit, Lecturer Rebin Bilal Mohammed expressed his sincere appreciation to the management and staff of the Central Bank of Iraq – Erbil Branch for their warm hospitality and informative explanations. He highlighted the importance of such scientific visits in strengthening students’ practical skills and reinforcing collaboration between academic institutions and key governmental organizations.
