Advancing Medical Students’ English Proficiency Workshop Organised by the Biomedical Sciences Department

On 17 April 2022, the Biomedical Sciences Department of Cihan University – Erbil conducted an important workshop titled ‘Advancing Medical Students’ English Proficiency’ at Building 8. The workshop was open to Cihan University – Erbil staff and the public. Heads of various departments, teaching staff, and students attended this workshop.

The speakers of this workshop consisted of Head of the Biomedical Sciences Department, Dr. Ali M. Hussein, an English Language lecturer from the aforementioned department, A.L. Ms. Zeena Mahmood, four lecturers from the English Language Department of Salahaddin University, and one lecturer from the English Language Department of Lebanese French University. The four lecturers from Salahaddin University were Dr. Hewa Ali Faqe Rasool, Dr. Tahsin Hussein Rassul, A.L. Mr. Hawran Abdullah Saeed, and A.L. Mr. Ihsan Sabr Shafiq. The lecturer from Lebanese French University however was A.L. Awan Kamal Muhammed.

This workshop which focused on the Academic English course that is offered by the Biomedical Sciences Department aimed at achieving four objectives. The objectives were to discuss the English language learning issues focusing on medical schools, to introduce a new syllabus for the Academic English course, to introduce the types of assessments for the English courses, and to recommend instructional materials for the Academic English course.
