Biomedical Sciences Department Students Participate in CORE3 Cancer Symposium on World Cancer Day
On Wednesday, 4 February 2026, third-stage students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University–Erbil participated in the 3rd Cancer Observation, Research, and Engagement (CORE3) Symposium, held in conjunction with World Cancer Day at the Cultural and Academic Center of Salahaddin University–Erbil.
The symposium was officially opened by Dr. Saman Barzangy, Minister of Health of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), together with Professor Dr. Kamaran Younis M. Amin, President of Salahaddin University. In their opening remarks, they highlighted the importance of cooperation between health authorities, academic institutions, and research centers in strengthening national cancer control efforts.
CORE3 serves as a national platform that brings together policymakers, clinicians, researchers, academics, and civil society representatives to address cancer through evidence-based prevention, early detection, treatment strategies, and community engagement. The symposium aligns with the World Cancer Day slogan, “United by Unique,” which emphasizes collective responsibility despite individual cancer journeys.
During the symposium, students attended scientific sessions presented by distinguished speakers, including Dr. Chinar Ali Mustafa, Dr. Jangi Salai (keynote speaker), and Assistant Professor Dr. Amir Chali, along with additional presentations covering topics such as breast cancer data, pathology, renal cell carcinoma, and molecular cancer research.
The students’ active engagement in discussions and scientific sessions reflects their growing academic involvement and contributes to bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world public health and research practices.
