On Wednesday, 4 February 2026, a group of students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences delivered an academic seminar entitled ‘Female Hormones and Their Role in Physical and Mental Health’ at Sava Private High School, English Section. The seminar was conducted under the supervision of the Head of the Department and Ms. Nza Hamid Mohammed Ali.
The students were warmly received by the Vice Director of the school, Mrs. Hana Salam Hussein. The event was held in the school hall and attended by Grade 12 pupils. During the seminar, the Biomedical Sciences students provided an overview of the importance of female hormones and highlighted the key hormones involved in female health, including estrogen, progesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), oxytocin, and prolactin.
The presenters explained the physiological roles and functions of these hormones, emphasizing that estrogen, produced primarily by the ovaries, is the main female sex hormone responsible for the development of reproductive organs and the regulation of the menstrual cycle. Progesterone, released after ovulation, was described as essential for preparing the body for pregnancy and supporting reproductive health.
At the end of the seminar, interactive activities were conducted, including simple questions related to the presented topics, to enhance student engagement and understanding. Mrs. Hana Salam Hussein expressed her appreciation to the Head of the Department and the participating students for delivering a well-organized and informative seminar on an important and relevant subject.
