Cihan University-Erbil Fourth-Stage Students of Translation Department Visit AVA TV Station
A group of fourth-year students from Cihan University-Erbil’s Translation Department undertook an academic visit to AVA TV Station in Erbil on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The visit, part of their Media Translation course, was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Narmin Abubaker Ali.
Upon their arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Dler Hassan, Public Relations Coordinator at AVA TV. Mr. Hassan provided a comprehensive overview of the station’s operations and activities, emphasizing the critical role of translation as a cornerstone in conveying global media messages. He then guided the students through various departments, including the live broadcast studios, production and editing rooms, and the dedicated translation units for Kurdish, Arabic, and English, as well as the sports news department. Staff members from each section provided detailed explanations, offering students a deeper understanding of translation’s professional application within a television broadcast environment.
The students also had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Arshad Khaleel Asaad in the newsroom. Dr. Arshad Asaad elaborated on how AVA TV presents its programs and news in three languages and shared invaluable insights into the importance of media translation, offering practical advice to enhance the students’ translation skills.
The supervising lecturer extended her gratitude to the staff of AVA TV for facilitating this practical experience, which significantly enriched the students’ understanding of media translation and the demands of the profession. This academic excursion provided students with a unique chance to bridge theoretical classroom learning with real-world industry practices, fostering their knowledge and inspiring their future careers in translation and media.
