Cihan University – Erbil held a ceremony for World Nurses Day
In collaboration with the Kurdistan Health Workers Syndicate, Cihan University-Erbil hosted a celebration in honor of World Nurses’ Day with the theme “Nurses are protectors of our future health.”
The ceremony, which took place at Cihan University -Erbil today on 12 May 2024, was attended by the Minister of Health, Dr. Saman Barzanji, Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University- Erbil, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Head of Cihan University’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, President of the Kurdistan Health Workers Syndicate, and several nurses, lecturers, students, and guests. The ceremony began with a moment of silence to honor the innocent lives of martyrs and nurses.
This was addressed in a speech given by Professor Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, president of Cihan University -Erbil. He began by congratulating the nurses on their achievement that day and then discussed the importance of nurses to the health sector and doctors in general. He stated that nurses are essential to the health sector and society at large because, without them, no specialist in the medical field could carry out their professional responsibilities. Nurses are referred to as “field doctors,” and because of this crucial duty, there is a particular day set aside on the global calendar just for nurses.
Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi said as follows: “Cihan University-Erbil has four colleges and eleven medical specialists. It also has some modern medical laboratories and is a major player in the development of medical and health cadres for the Kurdistan Region and Iraqi health sector. In addition, Cihan Teaching Hospital will soon be open to therapists, students, and researchers in the field of medicine and health. This is part of the world health system’s implementation stage.”
During another section of his speech, the president of Cihan University-Erbil informed the healthcare workers of some important news. He stated: “We had a meeting with the Health Workers Syndicate a while back, and they had some demands from us regarding the advancement of their employees’ scientific knowledge in various fields. Whether it’s education or training in various health-related fields.
During a different segment of the event, Dr. Saman Barzanji, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Minister of Health, Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, the governor of Erbil, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, the head of Cihan Universities’ board of trustees, and the president of the Kurdistan Health Workers Syndicate each gave separate speeches. During their remarks, they not only congratulated the International Nurses Day but also praised the important role that nurses play in aiding the sick in hospitals.
World Nurses Day was celebrated and some artistic endeavours concluded the celebration.
