Cihan University-Erbil Initiates the Fifth International Conference on Biomedical and Health Sciences
The 5th International Conference on Biomedical and Health Sciences commenced at Cihan University-Erbil under the supervision of Dr. Aram Mohammad Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The event saw a remarkable turnout of researchers from both abroad and within the country. Cihan University-Erbil, in collaboration with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland and the College of Medicine, University of Babylon in Iraq, started the fifth International Scientific Conference on Biomedical and Health Sciences.
On Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, the fifth International Conference on Biomedical and Health Sciences was officially opened at Cihan University-Erbil. This significant academic gathering was graced by the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Khetab Ahmad Mustafa, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Omed Khoshnaw, the Governor of Erbil, along with numerous General Directors from the Ministry, representatives from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland, and the College of Medicine at Babylon University in Iraq. Esteemed academics, researchers, field experts, and university faculty members also attended. The conference initiated its proceedings with a respectful moment of silence to pay tribute to the martyrs, accompanied by the recitation of select verses from the Holy Quran, marking a solemn beginning to the event held in the conference hall of Cihan University-Erbil.
Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, delivered a speech, in which he welcomed the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, guests from inside and outside Iraq, university presidents, deans, professors, researchers, and guests, emphasizing the importance of scientific research. He stated that Cihan University-Erbil, with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region and with the backing of its board of trustees, has exerted every effort to enrich and encourage scientific research. Moreover, all facilities have been provided for conducting and producing valuable and original research. This has led Cihan University-Erbil to be a leader among Iraqi and Kurdistan universities in international rankings, making progress year after year globally.
The president of Cihan University-Erbil allocated part of his speech to the various aspects of the conference and disclosed that 190 scientific researches were submitted to the scientific committee of the conference. After evaluation and review by a group of experts from inside and outside Iraq, 140 researches were accepted, and 50 were rejected.
Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi, elaborated on the selection process for the conference, revealing that out of the accepted research submissions, 23 originate from esteemed universities across the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Turkey, Morocco, Pakistan, Jordan, India, Iran, Ethiopia, Syria, and Yemen. Additionally, 117 research papers from the Kurdistan Region and Iraq have been approved for presentation. He outlined that the research topics are organized into six distinct tracks: Microbial Insights and Research Trends, Innovations in Biomedical Sciences, New Perspectives on Public Health and Nutrition, Progress in Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Technologies, Frontiers in Pharmaceutical Development and Drug Discovery, and Cutting-Edge Technologies in Dental and Oral Health.
Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi, dedicated another part of his speech to the other significant aspects of the conference and announced that 8 international keynote speakers from the United Kingdom, Poland, Italy, Malaysia, Turkey, and India will present their speeches, alongside 2 specialized local experts in the field of Medical Biology and Health Sciences.
At the end of his speech, the President of Cihan University-Erbil, on behalf of Cihan University-Erbil and as the head of the conference’s high committee, expressed gratitude for the efforts made to ensure the success of this important event and thanked the committees: scientific, preparatory, administrative, financial, communication and relations, information technology, reception, and conference hall organization for their efforts. He also appreciated the researchers for their valuable participation that enriched the conference themes.
Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajger, Chairman Of board of the trustees of Cihan Universities, also delivered a speech, hoping for greater emphasis on scientific research since nations and communities only advance through advanced scientific research. He reiterated the support of the board of the trustees of Cihan Universities for conducting impactful research.
In another part of the conference, Assistant Professor Dr. Khattab Ahmad Mustafa, Director General of Education, Planning, and Follow up, representing Dr. Aram Mohammad Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, presented a speech. Initially expressing happiness for the commencement of the 5th International Conference on Biomedical and Health Sciences.
He then praised the position of Cihan University-Erbil. He expressed the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region’s congratulations to Cihan University-Erbil, which has achieved the first rank among private universities both in the Kurdistan Region and in Iraq in global rankings such as Scimago and Web of Science. He also commended the president of the university, its council, all professors, employees, and students for their significant and valuable scientific achievements, wishing them continued success and leadership among universities.
Dr. Khetab Ahmad Mustafa allocated another part of his speech to the important aspects of the conference and said: “As it is very clear to you, respected researchers and professors, the health sector has its own specialties and is very different from other sectors. In the health sector, at local, regional, and global levels, challenges and obstacles are shared, therefore, the goals and commitments must also be shared. Thus, the goals and commitments must also be shared.” For this purpose, the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research brought up the example of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, which spread across the globe, reaching every boundary and affecting every place and corner of the Earth. He also stated that this reiterated the reality that to combat health crises and challenges, we all must share a common perspective and participate together in finding solutions. All of us are committed as a community to advancing and expanding the boundaries of research to improve and progress the health sector and healthy living worldwide. In achieving this goal, researchers in the fields of biological, medical, and health sciences bear a significant and important role and responsibility.
Dr. Kazem Al-Hamdany, the Dean of the College of Medicine at Babylon University in Iraq, presented a speech on behalf of the presidency of University of Babylon, in which, after a brief introduction about their university, he extensively discussed the fifth International Conference in the field of Biomedical and Health Sciences, highlighting it as a significant scientific gathering for the discussion of various aspects of biology and health sciences.
Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Michal J. Zasada, the President of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland, delivered a pre-recorded video address to the attendees, highlighting the conference’s objective to promote the sharing of knowledge and results from research across various domains of Biomedical and Health Sciences. He further emphasized that the day’s events are a testament to the collaborative efforts that began years prior.
Following the conclusion of the opening remarks, the conference agenda officially commenced, outlining a two-day schedule dedicated to the presentation and examination of scientific studies. This phase aims to foster discussions among researchers on the findings presented.
