Cihan University-Erbil is the first and the only university in Kurdistan Region, the second in Iraq in the world in the British Times Multidisciplinary Sciences Ranking for the year 2025.
Consistent with the commitments of governments and global higher education institutions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of scientific research, the British Times Foundation launched the first edition of its Interdisciplinary Science Rankings for the year 2025, which was published on 22 November 2024. The Interdisciplinary Science Rankings measure global universities’ contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science.
The Ranking is based on three key criteria:
Inputs (19%)
- Funding multidisciplinary scientific research: 8%
- Industry financing: 11%
Operations (16%)
- Success measure: 4%
- Physical facilities: 4%
- Administrative support: 4%
- Promotion process: 4%
Outputs (65%)
- Number of multidisciplinary scientific research publications: 10%
- Percentage of multidisciplinary scientific research publications: 5%
- Interest outside the specialty: 5%
- Quality of multidisciplinary scientific research: 20%
- Reputation: 25%
Out of more than 150 Iraqi public and private universities, only 12 universities were classified. Cihan University-Erbil was ranked the first and the only university at the level of universities in Kurdistan Region, and the second after the University of Baghdad at the level of Iraq. It is worth noting that Cihan University Erbil ranked 251st on global basis.
