Cihan University-Erbil Student: A Visit to the Viking Museum in Oslo
Zanoun Saad Zanoun, a student from the Medical Biochemical Analysis Department at Cihan University-Erbil, took the opportunity to visit Norway and explore the Viking Museum in Oslo while studying at the University of Lodz in Poland.
The museum brought the Viking Age to life through its fascinating collection of historical artifacts, lifelike reconstructions of daily life, and advanced technology. Zanoun was particularly amazed by the exhibits featuring key figures of Viking society, dressed in traditional clothes that offered a glimpse into their roles and lifestyles. The presented Vikings’ armor, shields, and weapons highlighted their craftsmanship and cultural significance. At the same time, interactive elements, including virtual reality (VR) experiences, allowed visitors to immerse themselves in Viking battles, voyages, and everyday activities, making the visit educational and engaging.
The Vikings, who originally lived in Scandinavia, built their settlements near coasts and rivers, relying on the sea for transportation, trade, and exploration. Over time, they spread across Europe and North America. Their society was organized into distinct classes, including chiefs, peasants, artisans, merchants, and slaves.
While in Oslo, Zanoun also enjoyed the city’s serene beaches and the Oslo Fiyord. With its calm waters, picturesque walking trails, and charming local cafés, the area offered a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. This memorable visit was made possible through an opportunity from Cihan University-Erbil and became a meaningful chapter in his academic journey.
