Cihan University – Erbil Student Participated in the US Consulate-Supported Training Course on Combating Misinformation and Disinformation
Srwa Kamiran Younis, a fourth-stage student from the Media Department at Cihan University-Erbil, participated in an intensive three-day training course on Combating Misinformation and Disinformation. Held with the support of the US Consulate in Erbil and organized by the Peace and Freedom Organization, it aimed to train journalists and Media Department students to identify and address fake news.
Sanjar Saman, Project Manager at the Peace and Freedom Organization, stated that the course targets 100 journalists and students from the Media Department and will be held in four phases for participants from the Kurdistan region.
Pamela Hack, Deputy Consul General of the United States in Erbil, emphasized the importance of having reliable and professional journalists to achieve transparency and accountability, praising their efforts and commitment to conveying the truth despite the challenges and risks they face.
For her part, Srwa Kamiran Younis, a fourth-stage student from the Media Department at Cihan University, expressed her great benefit from the course, especially as it coincided with her academic study of the subject of fake news and methods of verifying information.
Srwa called on everyone to be accurate in conveying and sharing news, especially on social media, because of its great impact on security and societal peace.
She also urged journalists to deal with news and information with great care, to contribute to reorganizing the media work environment, and to spread awareness among citizens about how to identify and address fake news.
