Cihan University-Erbil Tops Private Universities in Kurdistan and Iraq in Latest Web of Science Citation Rankings

In the most recent Web of Science (InCites – Web of Science WoS) Citation Rankings for universities worldwide, covering the years 2019 to 2023, Cihan University-Erbil was distinguished as the leading private university in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Additionally, it secured the fourth position among all universities, both public and private, within the Kurdistan Region.

This ranking, which was published on Sunday, February 11, 2024, highlighted Cihan University-Erbil’s significant academic contributions. The university recorded a substantial increase in its WoS-indexed publications, from 205 documents in the preceding evaluation to 749 documents in the current ranking. Moreover, it demonstrated a remarkable growth in its citation count, rising from 526 citations to 11,898 citations, thereby achieving the highest impact factor among its peers.

The Web of Science (WoS) serves as a crucial resource for postgraduate students, researchers, and professors, offering access to a vast repository of scientific research and studies. Over the period from 2019 to 2023, a total of 82 universities and college institutions in Iraq were documented in this database. Among these, Cihan University-Erbil was ranked tenth overall, encompassing both public and private institutions across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
